The K–8 arc — three clusters
Early Foundations (Grades K–2)
Machines can seem smart, but people make them. Students sort, draw, and play their way to three honest ideas: a machine isn’t alive, people teach machines with examples, and devices sense the world in their own limited way.
Building Understanding (Grades 3–5)
How AI actually learns — patterns, data, and prediction. Students discover that data comes from somewhere, that biased data is unfair to real people, and that AI makes guesses, not facts — so we verify what matters and protect what’s private.
Critical & Creative Use (Grades 6–8)
Living well with generative AI. Students learn how AI makes things (and makes things up), why AI that talks like a person isn’t a person, and how to use these tools responsibly, honestly — and when not to use them at all.
Every lesson, the same dependable rhythm
All forty-five lessons follow one five-beat rhythm, so the second lesson a teacher runs is easier than the first — and by the third, the format disappears and the ideas take over.
- 1. Hook — A quick opening question or moment that connects the idea to what students already know.
- 2. Unplugged exploration — A hands-on game or activity — card sorts, matching, role-play — that lets students discover the idea themselves, no devices needed.
- 3. Concept reveal — The teacher names the idea in plain words, with the exact scripted language provided.
- 4. Thinking beat — Guided discussion with prepared questions — and the answers students are likely to give.
- 5. Make & apply — Students put the idea to work on a real handout, ending with a simple exit ticket.

Five design principles
- Any teacher can teach it: Every lesson is fully scripted — word-for-word “Say:” prompts, timings, discussion questions with likely student answers. Teachers don’t explain AI; the materials do.
- Everything is included: Card decks, sorting sets, scenario cards, sample AI outputs with answer keys, and every student handout — all printed from the curriculum itself. There is nothing to purchase.
- Unplugged first: Especially in the early grades, lessons are sorting games, drawing, and discussion. Where technology appears, it’s brief, purposeful, and teacher-led.
- Safety in every grade: A safety and digital-citizenship thread runs through all nine grades and grows with the child — it is never a bolt-on unit.
- Projects, not tests: Each grade ends in a short project scored on a simple rubric. No written tests, ever.

The scope and progression draw on the UNESCO AI Competency Framework for Students — its Understand → Apply → Create progression — the AI4K12 “Five Big Ideas” in AI, and current research on how children understand and interact with AI.
